Egan Bernal solidifies his grip on pink as Remco Evenepoel loses two minutes

There were an awful lot of cliches flying around on Stage 11 of the Giro d'Italia. The main one being 'you cannot win the Giro today but you may lose it'.

Often, we use cliches because they are very well true but in this case, we think not. Ineos Grenadier Egan Bernal was imperious on the strade bianche, extending his Maglia Rosa lead to 45 seconds over Aleksandr Vlasov (Astana). Deceuninck-QuickStep's Remco Evenepoel lost over two minutes, slipping down to seventh overall.

For some, Remco lost the Giro on those Tuscan gravel roads but a Grand Tour is a long race, three weeks in fact. There are still 10 stages left, Monte Zoncolan, the Passo Pordoi, that final 30km time-trial in Milan. On that kind of terrain, two minutes can be won back in no time. Remco is still in the hunt for pink.
