Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic gets WorldTour status

Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic joins 9 other new events for a total of 37 races on the 2017 UCI WorldTour.

The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic has been awarded WorldTour status for 2017-2019 by the UCI, making it the first ever men's event in the UK to reach the top tier of the pro calendar. 

The news comes with the unveiling of the UCI's WorldTour calendar, which was revealed on the 2nd August. The calendar now consists of 37 events, including 10 new additions, with three Grand Tours, 14 stage races and 20 one-day events. 

Other new additions to the WorldTour calendar at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race in Australia, the Tour of Qatar and Abu Dhabi Tour in the Middle East, Amgen Tour of California in the US and the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. Added to the calendar in the traditional cycling home of western Europe is the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Dwars Door Vlaanderen in Belgium, the Rund um den Finanzplatz in Germany and Strada Bianchi in Italy, as well as the RideLondon-Surrey Classic. 

'The publication of this new calendar is an important step in the development of men’s professional road cycling,' said UCI President Brian Cookson. 'Alongside the prestigious events which have already proven their worth, the UCI WorldTour is enriched by the addition of some truly fantastic races across the globe.
