Geraint Thomas will ride the Olympic Time-Trial after a late call up due to other injured riders being unable to compete.

Geraint Thomas will ride the Olympic Time-Trial on Wednesday 10th August, joining teammate Chris Froome on the startlist.

The news comes as a result of riders who crashed in the Road Race on Saturday being unable to compete due to the injuries they sustained.

'Whilst I’m thrilled to represent my country in a second event in Rio, the circumstances surrounding my inclusion are unfortunate and I’d like to wish all those who withdrew through injury a quick recovery,' said Thomas, who crashed out of medal contention in the Road Race himself during the final descent.

'I lost quite a lot of skin in my crash and my hip took a pretty big knock, but other than that my legs are feeling good and I’m looking forward to racing again on Wednesday.'

Starting in Pontal, the Time-Trial circuit is due to take in two laps of the same Grumari circuit that formed part of the road race, totalling 54.6km.
