Championships due to be held in Brittany, France, between 14th and 18th September.

Next week, between the 14th and 18th of September, the European Road Championships will be held in Brittany, France, and will boast a start list that includes the last four world road champions in the men's race, and the reigning Olympic champion in the women's.

There will be both road and time trial events in junior, U23 and elite categories for both men and women, with 848 athletes from 41 countries registered to compete.

'These European Championships are a great innovation with the first Road European Championships for professional riders and during the Olympic year,' said David Lappartient, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme. 'It's not been easy - we have had to deal with some difficulties after the understandable cancellation of the events scheduled in Monaco and Nice.' (The event was due to be held in Nice, but was cancelled due to terror threats after an attack during the summer). 'Brittany and Morbihan will host the European Championships on the select circuit in Plumelec, with the famous Côte du Cadoudal, whose summit will be the stratetgic point of this spectacular circuit.'

Joining Peter Sagan and Michal Kwiatkowski in the men's event will be Fabio Aru, Philippe Gilbert, Rui Costa and Samuel Sanchez, while Elisa Longo Borghini, Emma Johansson and Marianne Vos will line up next to Olympic Champion Van der Breggen in the women's race.
