A new sportive has been announced, promising 15,000 cyclists the chance to ride 100 miles of closed roads around Birmingham.

Closed road sportives are now more popular than ever – just look at the RideLondon, which has grown bigger each year. Their increasing popularity does mean that no ever can get a place, which is where the Velo Birmingham sportive steps in. It’s a brand new event taking place in September 2017, with the tickets going on sale on Friday.

The route heads south from Birmingham and once out of the urban sprawl, miles and miles of undulating countryside awaits. The route takes in approximately 2,000 metres of climbing but for those who really fancy a challenge, there’s a King & Queen of the Mountain competition at the 85 mile point.
