British Cycling announce Czech clothing manufacturer Kalas will supply GB cycling kit for next four years

British Cycling today announced that Czech clothing manufacturer - or 'custom cycle wear experts' to quote the press release - will be the new kit supplier to the GB cycling team for the next four years.

The partnership is due to begin from January 2017, with Kalas supplying both on and off the bike clothing for riders and staff in the GB set up, although no design has been fully released - just some teasing details.

'We began our search for a new clothing supplier with one clear aim: to ensure that the Great Britain Cycling Team can continue to perform at the highest level, said chief operating officer at British Cycling, Jamie Obank. 'With this in mind, we sought a company which could provide cost-effective, high quality and innovative clothing, in addition to being able to respond to the changing requirements of our athletes and the team.

'Kalas, in addition to being able to deliver on all of our primary objectives, will help consolidate British Cycling’s reputation of being at the forefront of elite cycling across all disciplines. Both parties are excited about working together to produce the next generation of performance race-wear through our unique collaboration.'

Kalas founder Čestmír Kalaš began making cycling clothes in 1991, when after meeting Assos founder Tony Maier he started to produce garments in Tabor, in what was then Czechoslovakia, for the Swiss brand. The partnership lasted for 5 years, at which point Kalaš broke off to found Kalas Sportswear. The brand now supply a number of other pro teams, including Wanty-Groupe Gobert and Ford-Ecoboost, as well as jerseys for the recent London Six Day.

'This is a proud moment in the history of our company,' said Kalas' director and co-owner Jakub Věncek. 'We are honoured to be chosen by British Cycling ahead of some more famous companies.

'It is a unique and exciting partnership for us both and we are fully committed to developing new products with British Cycling, as well as a fresh new Great Britain Cycling Team-inspired range for the fans. We look forward to revealing the new Great Britain Cycling Team kit design in January, and we are confident that it is going to be very popular with the fans.'
