University offering Cycling Performance degree pairs with Team OnForm to allow students to compete in cycle races as part of their studies

Students on Writtle University College’s Cycling Performance degree will soon have the opportunity to compete as part of a new cycling academy after the college partnered with Team OnForm.

The Essex based squad includes current and former world, national and regional champions and will provide a home to both male and female cyclists from the course, with the outfit looking to compete in national series events across the country.

Cycling Performance degree course leader Mark Walker explained: ‘Our degree is unique in providing students with the chance to study for a cycling-specific sports science degree while developing a career in cycling, whether that’s in racing or the wider industry.

'Our partnership with Team OnForm will give students the scope to apply what they’ve learnt in the classroom within a professionally run team.’

Team OnForm Principal Simon Howes added: ‘Talent can take you so far, but without the right support and experience around you it becomes very difficult to progress.

'We aim to create a welcoming and safe team environment where we care about the people involved.’

Hows continued, ‘Our partnership with Writtle University College and our focus on development has allowed us to create a team where staff, riders and sponsors can grow together.

'We believe it's not about how strong you are or the number of races you've won, it's about the right approach. Without it, you are not going to be able to achieve all you can.’

Offering a great opportunity for aspiring racers the partnership is likely to boost interest in the course and should help develop the next generation of racers and coaches.
