Development team of U23 and junior riders to be supported by clothing manufacturer

Polartec, the American clothing and fabric manufacturer, is set to sponsor Alberto Contador's under-23 development team, the 'Contador Foundation Team', until 2018.

After being a co-sponsor in 2016, Polartec has upped its investment to become the title sponsor, meaning the team will now be called the Polartec Contador Foundation Team. The team is managed by Alberto's brother, Francisco Contador.

Polartec first entered the fabric industry in 1981, introducing a synthetic fleece to the outdoor pursuit market, but for the last four years has become increasingly involved in developing clothing and accessories for the cycling market, attracting brands like Rapha, Castelli and Sportful.

'We are delighted to extend our partnership with Alberto Contador and the cycling team he founded,' said Gary Smith, CEO of Polartec. 'Polartec and the Contador Foundation share the same values of performance, innovation and vision for the future of cycling. For us, this team is a showcase, but also a laboratory for testing and validating our latest textile innovations.

'High-level competition is the best test bench for performance. In 2017, 100% of the garments in the Polartec Contador Foundation team's kit was made using our technical fabrics. For races under extreme heat, but also colder and rainy races, our technical fabrics are designed to protect and support rider's performance. Our goal is to become the textile leader in cycling.'
