Maserati Haute Route Norway launched, first event in 2018

Haute Route organiser OC Sport is expanding its offering into Scandinavia

Haute Route, the multi-day sportive series, is set to add a new event as of summer 2018 with expansion into Scandinavia.

The first Maserati Haute Route Norway is scheduled to run in the summer of next year and will be a three-day sportive based in a single location.

Entries will open over the next few months for people to travel to Norway and take part in the inaugural event.

Similar to the existing Haute Route events - Rockies, Pyrenees, Alps, Dolomites, Alpe d'Huez, Ventoux - the new Norway sportive will include timed and ranked racing giving amateurs the opporunity to ride like the pros.

The original Haute Route events - Haute Route Alps, Haute Route Pyrenees and Haute Route Dolomites - are seven day tests of endurance.

These have since been joined on the calendar by the inaugural Mavic Haute Route Rockies, which takes place in Colorado in summer 2017, along with two new three-day events – Haute Route Ventoux and Haute Route Alpe d’Huez.

Now, the addition of the Norwegian event, 'is the latest step in an ambitious global expansion of the successful Haute Route concept.'

Norwegian city Bergen will host the 2017 Road Race World Championships, which influenced the decision to host an Haute Route sportive in Norway.

'Norway quickly became a front-runner as we reviewed possible locations for our next Haute Route adventure,' said Matt Holden, Cycling Strategic Development Director at OC Sport.

'Our riders will discover some of the most beautiful and challenging terrain in the world where roads with majestic switch-backs climbs in amongst the Norwegian fjords – already an area of world class tourism.'

Peter Denton, North Europe General Manager of Maserati, added: 'The quality of an Haute Route event supported by Maserati in this engaging environment seems to complement one another perfectly.'
