Velon and RCS Sport partner up to ensure live data tracking at a number of Italian races over the next two years

RCS Sport, the organisers of Tirreno-Adriatico, which starts today, have agreed a deal with Velon that will mean that the live tracking of data from certain riders will be broadcasted as the stages are run.

The two year deal, which will also see Velon's performance data package used by RCS Sport at its major race, the Giro d'Italia, will give viewers the opportunity to track the position, speed, power, heart rate, cadence and acceleration of certain riders in the peloton.

The aim for the Giro in May will be to have whole teams kitted out with the data transponders, which as well as the ten teams currently registered as 'Velon teams', will also include a selection of those who are not registered with the body.

'The agreement with RCS Sport will bring extended coverage of data and further raise the profile of riders and teams involved, we can’t wait to see the action unfold in Tirreno-Adriatico.'

Meanwhile Shayne Bannon, general manager of Orica-Scott, said: 'We have only just started to see what live data can bring to cycling and this two-year agreement with RCS Sport will help guarantee its evolution. Television broadcasters worldwide will transmit our riders’ data from some of the biggest bike races in the world, like Milano-Sanremo and the Giro d’Italia, showcasing the raw talent of our athletes and offering even more insights to our fans.'

Tirreno-Adriatico, meanwhile, begins today with an opening team time trial.
