Boels-Dolmans rider set for return to home roads in April for Women's Tour de Yorkshire

Lizzie Deignan (formerly Armitstead) has confirmed that she will be riding the Women's Tour de Yorkshire, due to be held on 29th April and in tandem with the men's event.

Armitstead, who rides for the Dutch team Boels-Dolmans and recently finished 3rd at the women's Strade-Bianchi, will be aiming to beat her place of 26th from last year, which she was relegated to after her breakaway attempt was caught in the closing stages.

'I’m really excited to be riding the Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire again and am looking forward to being back on home turf,' said Armitstead. 'Obviously, there’s a lot of racing between now and then, but I hope to be there in good form and able to make my mark on the race.'

'It’s a more challenging route this year and that’s one of the great things about the Tour de Yorkshire, that we’re able to compete on the exact same roads as the men.'

The race is a single-day event, held over a 122.5km course between Tadcaster and Harrogate, which is the same as the men's route. The women are due to start at 09:10am, with the men (on their second of three stages) following on later at 14:00pm.
