Exhilarating and free for spectators: ThunderCrit fixed gear racing comes to Olympic Park

Free to spectate fixed gear racing at the Lee Valley VeloPark

Now in its second year the ThunderCrit fixed gear criterium is moving to the race circuit at the Lee Valley VeloPark.

With the competitors riding brakeless in a bunch, the format adds another element of excitement to the already action packed criterium style, making this a great type of racing to watch.

Taking place on 6th May it’ll be free to spectate and, if you're feeling brave, only £25 to enter.

With the increasing interest in fixed gear crit racing, partly driven by the popularity of Brooklyn's infamous Red Hook Crit, which has now spawned events across the world, London’s ThunderCrit is hoping to build the scene in the UK.

'ThunderCrit is looking to bridge the gap from enthusiastic racers to serious Red Hook contenders with categorised finals providing much needed race experience for those starting out,' explained organiser Rob of NLTCBMBC.

Billed as the largest independent UK based track bike criterium and hosted by the North London Thunder Cats Black Metal Bicycle Club, both of last year's winners Jo Smith (now of BowlPhish Racing) and Paul Vanotti (Disorderly Habits) are returning to defend their titles.

Having previously taken place way out on the edge of London, at the Redbridge Cycling centre, the move to a more easily accessible venue should boost both participation and spectator numbers.

Free to watch, the racing begins from midday with the finals scheduled to start around 4pm.
