Scaled-to-fit bikes feature 650b wheels to match smaller riders

It's been a while since brands considered it acceptable to apply a flowery paint job to an existing bike and call it a women’s model. However, while truly women’s specific geometries and components have become more prevalent, smaller riders can still struggle to find appropriately designed bikes.

This year along with sponsoring the Canyon-SRAM racing team the German bike manufacturer Canyon is introducing a complete line of road bikes for women, mirroring its popular Endurace aluminium, and Endurace and Ultimate carbon models.

Featuring one of the broadest size ranges, covering riders from 152cm tall, the two smallest options swap to the diminutive diameter 650b wheel size in order to provide better fit and handling characteristics.

'This new standard transforms the riding experience for smaller riders meaning they can enjoy the snap and agility all of the best road bikes should possess like never before,' explained a spokesperson for the brand.

Both the geometry and the spec has been designed to match the wheels.

With the larger bikes coming with a compact 50/34t chainset, to accommodate the different circumference of the smaller wheels the 650b equipped bikes swap to larger 52/36t chainrings to ensure the ratios available remain effectively the same.

The new range includes the endurance focused aluminium and carbon Endurace models along with the more aggressive Ultimate which features an aerodynamic design and is also Canyon’s lightest road disc frame at 765g (size XS).
