Tour de France icon will be positioned on the 'Devil's Elbow' climb during the Welsh sportive

The Dragon Ride, a Welsh sportive due to be held on June 11th, will for the first time be welcoming Didi 'The Devil' Senft to the roadside in 2017.

Over the past 25 years Didi has become one of the Tour de France's most recognisable sights, jumping up and down at the side of the road with his pitchfork and red tights as the peloton rolls past, but this experience is no longer reserved for riders of Le Tour.

Didi will see participants of the Dragon Ride off at Port Talbot, before appropriately setting himself up at the Devil's Elbow climb, which comes after 190km and has slopes of 20%.

The climb is also a timed segment of the sportive, with both a King and Queen of the Mountains competition. The winners will each receive a Polka Dot jersey signed by Chris Froome, free entry into the following month’s L’Étape du Tour, including accommodation and bike hire, and VIP Champs Elysées passes for the final stage of the 2017 Tour de France.

But with Didi now shouting his encouragement from the roadsides, surely everyone's a winner?

A limited number of places are still available for the Dragon Ride.
