Custom builder FiftyOne Bikes creates frame celebrating 65th edition of the legendary Irish stage race

FiftyOne Bikes has partnered up with Aqua Blue rider Ronan McLaughlin to build a concept bike which will be used at the 2017 An Post Rás.

The 65th edition of the legendary Irish stage race begins on May 21st, and in a tribute to the race's long history, the frame bears the names of a select number of winners from down the years.

The vibrant paintwork is a tribute to the Northern Lights, as seen from Malin Head in County Donegal.

McLaughlin rides for the feeder team of the pro Aqua Blue Sport setup, but has experience with the An Post-Sean Kelly team, riding the World Championships in 2012, and based upon his measurements and preferences, was built a custom machine.

'Not only did we incorporate the measurements from the bike fit report but we ensured the bike would incorporate all of Ronan’s favourite characteristics,' said FiftOne founder Aidan Duff, referencing McLaughlin's preference for wide tyre clearance and super-stuff front end.

'To top it all off, Ronan and I designed a frame that would stand out and be totally unique to him.

'Ronan provided FiftyOne with a photo of the Northern Lights which can be seen at Malin Head, Co. Donegal, McLaughlin’s home county. They agreed to introduce the colours subtly and include the names of the past Irish Ras winners, resulting in the bike you see today.'

The results, it can safely be said, speak for themselves.
