The Tour of Gran Canaria is an eight-day holiday including six days of guided and supported epic road cycling trip across the sunny mountainous island of Gran Canaria.

Riders will stay in luxurious hotels right across the island, starting from the hot and arid south, up into the cool forests in the interior to the summit at Pico de las Nieves, then the routes will explore the beautiful north west coast, before heading south on the wild Dragon Tail road of the west coast.

Over the course of the Tour of Gran Canaria, riders will cross three temperate zones over six tours to arrive back around in the south, before a last valiant effort goes up the famous Serenity Climb to the top, followed by a descent to the south.

The last night will be celebrated with a big party in Maspalomas.

The Tour of Gran Canaria is a tough but great cycling trip, and is a must for every winter sun cyclist; with dates from October to May every year.

Gran Canaria has always been a pro cycling destination, old photos of Eddy Merckx, Miguel Indurain and Marco Pantani adorn some of the old cyclists' restaurants, and again now with new teams and young pros who come here to train, Gran Canaria is recognised as the place to ride.

The local government has responded positively by resurfacing nearly all of the roads to F1 quality; opening new tunnels to syphon off the majority of the traffic along the coast roads.

The climbs are still long and steep but consistent and the plateaus allow for recovery and hydration and before the route heads uphill again.

All the hotels are bike friendly and the local traffic is resoundingly polite, with locals shouting encouragement to you.

No doubt some of them are reliving past glory days, because the typical Canarian man or woman will have done some sport and all will have respect for you in facing their mountains.

The Tour of Gran Canaria is the only supported tour of the complete island.

The support car has all you need - water, energy drinks, bananas, dried fruit and tasty treats, plus spare wheels, tubes, First Aid kits, and walkie talkies for the staff - so you are always in contact, and the support team know where you are at all times.

Cycle Gran Canaria is based there all year round: there's nothing they don't know and little they can't make happen (within reason!).

The organisers can adapt quickly to any event, as they work to deliver a great and challenging, but fully supported winter sun cycling tour.
