Get your entry refunded for any sportive in July by signing up for the inaugural three-day Haute Route event

Riders are being offered the incentive of their money back on any one-day sportive they complete in July if they sign up to ride the inaugural Haute Route Alpe d’Huez.

The first running of the three-day Haute Route event takes place from Wednesday 12th to Friday 14th July, and with the feared Alpe d’Huez set to feature on all three days, the offer will make it easier for last-minute entries to get in some much needed conditioning ahead of the event.

The offer is limited to the first 50 cyclists who respond, and covers the entry cost for any other one-day sportive the rider completes during July.

The multi-day Haute Route series has become a popular fixture on the annual European sportive calendar. The original trio of events – Haute Route Alps, Haute Route Pyrenees and Haute Route Dolomites – were all seven-day events, pushing sportive riders to their limits over some of the toughest climbs on the continent.

However, the calendar has now been expanded to include three shorter events – Haute Route Rockies in Colorado, Haute Route Ventoux and Haute Route Alpe d’Huez.

Haute Route Norway

Next year another event will be added to the calendar – the three-day Haute Route Norway, billed as ‘the latest step in an ambitious global expansion of the successful Haute Route concept’.

The Alpe d’Huez edition starts with a time-trial up the famous Alpine climb on day one, followed by a gruelling 152km stage on day two and a shorter final stage. All three finish on top of Alpe d’Huez, and in all there’s 4,300m of climbing to contend with.

One rider who’s no stranger to pushing himself up the Alpe is former pro Fränk Schleck, who won Stage 15 of the 2006 Tour de France here and will be part of this year’s Haute Route field, though presumably taking things at a far more leisurely pace this time around.

For more details on the sportive refund offer, head to the Haute Route website, where you’ll also find information on all this year’s Haute Route events.
