Watch: The 2017 Tour de France's first breakaway win (video highlights)

Lilian Calmejane took the win despite getting cramp near the end of Stage 8 of the 2017 Tour de France

Summary - Stage 8 - Tour de France 2017 by tourdefrance_en

The breakaway had its day on Stage 8 of the 2017 Tour de France when Lilian Calmejane (Dimension Data) left his fellow escapees behind and went solo to the win.

Despite a bout of cramp near the finish, the young French rider was able to quickly recover and take the victory.

Behind the excitement of the stage win, the General Classification contenders watched each other and, minus a couple of small moves, it was a fairly neutral day for the overall and the top 10 was unchanged.

Stage 9 will be a huge day at the Tour de France and as the cliche goes, it might not be won here but it could certainly be lost.

The amount of climbing plus a huge descent towards the end could be enough to gap some yellow jersey hopefuls and see their chances disappear.

Watch Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale) and Chris Froome (Team Sky) in particular when the road heads rapidly downwards.
