Edvald Boasson Hagen was the luckiest and the strongest on Stage 19 of the 2017 Tour de France

Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) finally got his stage win on the 2017 Tour de France as he hit out solo on Stage 19 and went away to the finish line. The Norwegian already counts two photo finish second places and a further two third places at this year's Tour, so the win was overdue.

Boasson Hagen was part of a huge breakaway that went early and was instrumental in whittling it down later in the stage.

He later got lucky when he and Nikias Arndt (Team Sunweb) went the faster side of a roundabout and dropped the last of their companions.

Arndt flicked the elbow only to see Boasson Hagen come storming through and away to the stage victory.

Behind, the General Classification was a disappointing procession with all teams bunched behind Team Sky.

No one ever won a race by following the leader over the line, so those with any hope of usurping Chris Froome should have had a dig off the front with 3km to go. Just to try something. Anything.
