Former Tinkoff and Quick-Step rider Matteo Toasatto to debut as Sport Director for Team Sky at the Tour of Poland

With 20 years experience in the professional peloton, Team Sky have brought on board Italian Matteo Tosatto as their newest Sport Director.

Scheduled to debut at this weekend's Tour of Poland, Tosatto will take the role of second Sport Director, behind Gabriel Rasch, in the team car.

After originally planning to continue riding this season, Tosatto retired at the end of 2016. It was then at this year's Giro d'Italia that the 43-year-old first considered a director role after conversations with Sir Dave Brailsford.

'I was working at the Giro d’Italia for Pinarello and it was there that I was able to speak to Dave Brailsford a few times, and we had some conversations about working together.' said Tosatto.

Tosatto first linked up with Team Sky in June  where he guested in the team car at the Route du Sud. This was followed by two weeks with 14 of the teams riders at a training camp in Livigno, Italy.

With stage victories in both the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia and 50 monuments under his belt, Team Sky will be hoping that Tosatto will be able to bring his rich pool of experience the British WorldTour side.

Having ridden for Tinkoff, Quick-Step and Fassa Bortolo throughout his career, Tosatto has experience racing with some of the world's biggest teams, an attribute Team Sky will undoubtedly look to exploit.

'I raced against Team Sky a lot and I could see easily what an impressive team they are and how the team are always racing for the highest objectives.'

'I really look forward to working with young riders and helping them to develop,' adding, 'I hope with my experience I can help them to reach their objectives.'
