French rider Tony Gallopin leaves Lotto Soudal for the brown and blue of AG2R La Mondiale

Tony Gallopin has signed a two-year deal with French WorldTour side AG2R La Mondiale taking him through to the end of the 2019 season.

After four years with Lotto-Soudal, Gallopin will be jumping ship back to France, to act as a domestique for the likes of Romain Bardet and Oliver Naesen whilst also having his own opportunities.

Gallopin has referenced the ambitions of AG2R La Mondiale - who had a stand-out performance at this year's Tour racing for Bardet - and looks forward to providing France with its first Tour winner since 1985.

'We saw again recently at the Tour de France that this is a team that is among the best in the world. The vision of the sporting project is what seduced me and won me over,' adding. 'I will be playing a big part in the spring classics and hopefully helping Oliver Naesen to land a monument. I know that I will also have my own chance when racing the week-long events like the Paris-Nice.'

'Part of my job will be to support Romain Bardet at the Tour de France. I am very motivated by this new challenge.'

The eagle-eyed amongst us may not be surprised by this move. On Stage 18 to the Izoard, Gallopin momentarily offered his wheel to Bardet, after being caught from his time in the break, before being dropped by the main bunch.

In his time at Lotto Soudal, Gallopin was able to wear the yellow jersey at the Tour whilst also taking a stage victory at Paris-Nice.

Gallopin joins Warren Barguil in a return to racing for a home team. Barguil confirmed that he will be riding for French Pro-Continental team Fortuneo-Oscaro from next season.
