Chris Froome will lead Team Sky in search for the Tour de France - Vuelta a Espana double

Team Sky have announced a strong team to take on the Vuelta a Espana which starts in Nimes, France, this Saturday.

As expected, Chris Froome has been confirmed team leader for Team Sky in a bid to become only the third rider in history to win the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana in one season.

Team Sky's squad for this year's Vuelta is noticeably strong, with the usual mix of mountain domestiques and strong rouleurs. Certain injuries have also allowed some riders to ride the Vuelta as opposed to their usual place at the Tour.

Wout Poels and Ian Stannard will make their return to grand tour racing after injury and bad form ruled them out of the Tour. Having both been pivotal to Froome in previous Tour success, these two riders will be notable assets.

Alongside Poels, David Lopez, Mikel Nieve and Diego Rosa will offer their assistance and expertise in the high mountains. Christian Knees and Salvatore Puccio will be relied upon to assist Ian Stannard in protection duties for the less mountainous days.

Completing the line-up is Gianni Moscon, the 23-year old Italian. The young rider will be making his grand tour debut after another promising season with the British Worldtour side. Moscon and Rosa will be the exceptions to an otherwise very experienced team.

Sir Dave Brailsford has commented on the ability of this team hoping they can replicate their Tour success.

'We go into the race with Chris supported by another group of ver talented riders.' he told Team Sky's website.

'I was very proud of how we rode the Tour this year. This group go into the race with the same mindset and we will give them every support we can to help them succeed together.'
