British time trial specialist Alex Dowsett joins Katusha-Alpecin from Movistar

Alex Dowsett has joined Swiss WorldTour team Katusha-Alpecin from Movistar.

The 28-year-old will end his five year stay at the Spanish WorldTour set-up to move across to Katusha-Alpecin.

Katusa-Alpecin announced the transfer this morning via their twitter page.

After failing to secure a place in Movistar's team for the Giro d'Italia this May, questions were raised concerning the future of the British time-trial specialist. Dowsett failed to make the cut for a Grand Tour this season after also missing out on selection for the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana.

In his five seasons with Movistar, Dowsett managed to take some marquee victories including the overall victory at Bayern Rundfahrt in 2015 and a stage of the Giro d'Italia in 2013.

Dowsett will be hoping that this move reinvigorates his career after a disappointing season. Alongside missing out on riding any of the three grand tours, the Brit also lost his National Time Trial title to Steve Cummings (Dimension Data).

Speaking to Katusha-Alpecin online, Dowsett noted the importance of continuing with Canyon bikes whilst also looking forward to working with fellow new signing Marcel Kittel.

'The nice thing for me is that I can stay on the phenomenal Canyon bikes. They were such a huge sponsor for me in the last years, and in my opinion, it’s the best bike.' Dowsett said.

'I hope to do the same now with Marcel Kittel. I am good in positioning other riders to the sprint, but also to the climbs. Team Katusha-Alpecin will not regret this transfer.'
