Geraint Thomas will return to racing a the Tour of Britain after crashing out of the Tour de France

Geraint Thomas and Owain Doull (Team Sky) have both been confirmed for the 2017 Tour of Britain. Thomas is making his return to racing after bad luck earlier in the season saw him forced to withdraw from both the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France.

His crash in the latter resulted in a broken collarbone but the intervening weeks should have been sufficient time for him to regain his form and be competitive when the Tour of Britain starts in Edinburgh on Sunday 3rd September.

The eighth and final stage ends in Thomas and Doull's home city of Cardiff. This is also the childhood home of Luke Rowe who was expected to join them on the start line until he broke his leg on a stag do.

The varied parcours will suit a rider of Thomas's quality and the 16km individual time trial on Stage 5 should be his chance to stamp his authority on the race.

The Welshman's talent for riding against the clock has been known for years but he showed his quality by taking the first yellow jersey of the 2017 Tour de France with victory on Stage 1.
