Three new events in the USA and a revamped approach to the Dolomites headline the expanded Haute Route series in 2018

The Haute Route cycling series will expand to 11 events for 2018, adding four brand new challenges and a revamped approach to the Dolomites to its calendar.

The multi-day cycling sportive series will see three new events launched in the USA, as well as its inaugural visit to Norway and an overhauled approach to the Dolomites in Italy.

The 2018 series will begin with the inaugural three-day Haute Route San Francisco between the 20th-22nd April. The route will focus on the Bay area, taking in ocean roads as well as the Golden Gate Bridge.

Next on the Haute Route calendar will be the series' first visit to the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina with a three-day event centred around the city of Asheville between 18th and 20th May.

Known as 'Beer City USA' for its vast collection of craft breweries, the Haute Route Asheville will take the amateur riders through the French Broad river valley and over the Blue Ridge mountains.

The penultimate event of the series will also see the last of the three new events based in America, focusing on the state of Utah.

Centred around the city of Cedar City, the three-day event will take on the high plateaus and summits of the state winding in and out of the famous red rock scenery.

Next year will also see the first trip to Scandinavia with the Maserati Haute Route Norway. This will see the riders cycling around the Stavanger region, taking in the picturesque Norwegian fjords between the 3rd and 5th May.

The last new event will see a reworking of the Dolomites series. Splitting into two three-day events, 2018 will tackle the Stelvio with the challenge based around the town of Bormio.

Also new for the Haute Route in 2018 will be the option to ride as a duo. Riders will race together as a team with their time being based on the second rider to cross the line.

Details of all 11 events and how to enter can be found online at hauteroute.org.
