Katie Archibald steps up to the Women's WorldTour with move across to Wiggle-High5

Katie Archibald will make the step up to the Women's WorldTour next season after signing for the Wiggle-High5 team.

Wiggle-High5 are keen to develop Archibald as a road rider but also allow her to return to the track - where the Scot has seen substantial success - with the rider's immediate goals lying in both the track and road events at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

The 23-year-old has proven to be one of the most exciting young talents on both the track and road and will be looking to experience continued success in what will be only her second season of road racing.

Archibald currently holds four national titles on the track alongside her National Criterium title and is Omnium World Champion. Her debut season on the road also saw Archibald podium at both the road and time trial national championships.

Speaking to her new team, Archibald stated she is relishing the chance to learn from the experienced Wiggle-High5 team in the role of domestique.

'With this move I expect to be playing a support role to bigger goals as part of one of the highest ranked UCI teams,' she said.

'One day I hope to again be a race leader myself and plan to learn as much as possible from the hugely successful roster Wiggle-High5 boasts in 2018.'

Team manager and founder Rochelle Gilmore also expressed her delight at the signing of Archibald and made it clear that the team pursuit Olympic Champion will have plenty of opportunities to explore her potential on the road.

'While already an Olympic Champion on the track, Katie is still an unknown talent on the road, we’ve seen glimpses of what she’s capable of and we look forward to providing her with the opportunity to recognise her full potential on the road… in the future, when and if her heart desires.'
