FDJ unveil new kit, Pinot confirms Giro d'Italia ambitions

Insurance company Groupama join FDJ as main sponsor as Pinot sets his sights on the Giro

Team Groupama-FDJ has unveiled its new kit for the 2018 season with the French WorldTour team having taken on a new title sponsor in insurance company Groupama. It was also confirmed that general classification talent Thibaut Pinot will be focusing his ambitions for the year on the Giro d'Italia.

Pinot, who finished on the podium at the 2014 Tour de France, says he plans to ride the Tour again in 2018, but that his primary goal for the season will be the Giro.

The Frenchman made his debut at the Italian Grand Tour last season, winning a stage on his way to an impressive fourth overall, just 1 minute 17 seconds behind eventual winner Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb).

He will now return with the hope of stepping on to the podium and challenging for the pink jersey.

Pinot clearly enjoys racing on Italian soil, having also taken podium finishes at Tirreno-Adriatico and the Tour of the Alps last year, and placing fifth at Il Lombardia.

The French climber is set to start his 2018 season at the Tour du Haut-Var in mid-February before using the Volta a Catalunya and Tour of Alps as preparation races for the Giro.

Pinot also confirmed he aims to start the Tour de France but whether this is with general classification ambitions remains to be seen.

Much of the attention centred around the 27-year old as the team revealed its new team name and kit.

Sticking to its French roots, the new jersey will remain red, white and blue but has been substantially redesigned to bear a resemblance to some of the kits worn throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.

The jersey will also carry the name of new sponsor Groupama, who have assumed much of the financial responsibility of the team alongside French lottery providers Français des Jeux.
