Join the ride without leaving your own home: event date to be confirmed

Cyclist has joined forces with virtual training platform Zwift and smart trainer aficionados Tacx to bring you the inaugural Cyclist eFondo. It’s like a sportive, but instead of meeting in a rain-soaked carpark, you can join in the fun from the comfort of your own turbo trainer.

What’s more, it’s free to enter! So sign up, log on, clip in and ride the virtual course around Watopia

Cyclist eFondo: Key information

What? Cyclist eFondo

When? One weekend morning in March: exact date and start time TBC, check back for updates

Where? Anywhere in the world, as long as you have access to a turbo trainer, computer and wi-fi

Is there an entry fee? No, the Cyclist eFondo is completely free to enter.

How long is the course? The full Granfondo will be around 75km; the Medio fondo around 45km. The virtual route in Watopia takes in mountains, coast roads, gravel – and you’re guaranteed dry weather!

How long will it take? Despite being as realistic as possible, speeds in Watopia tend to be higher than in real life, so expect to finish 75km in around 2-2.5hrs and 45km in 1-1.5hrs.

Do I have to ride it all? As with any sportive you can stop early if you wish (although there will be no broom wagon). But to be eligible to win the Tacx Flux smart trainer you will need to complete the course.

Are there prizes? Anyone who completes either the Granfondo or Mediofondo will be entered into a prize draw to win a Tacx Flux direct mount smart trainer worth £700.

Plus, all finishers will also unlock the exclusive Cyclist eFondo kit to use on future Zwift rides.

Do I need to be a member of Zwift? You will need to be a registered Zwift user to take part.

Not a subscriber? You can sign up for a free seven-day trial and compete (remember to wait until within 7 days of the event to make sure your free trial is still active – so in other words if you want to use the free trial only sign up week commencing Monday 26th February).

What equipment do I need to take part? You will need a bike, a turbo trainer and a smart phone, PC, Mac or any compatible iOS device to run the Zwift App.

If you have a ‘smart trainer’, it will automatically pair with Zwift via either Bluetooth or ANT+ and alter the resistance depending on the terrain. If you have a traditional trainer, you can still use Zwift.

The minimum requirement is simply a speed/cadence sensor that can talk to Zwift via Bluetooth or ANT+. For more information on getting set up, click here.

How will I know where I’ve come at the end? Once you cross the line, your ride time and data will be recorded and the results available for all to see.

How do I sign up? To enter, fill your details below Entries will be open right up to the start time.

Once you’ve registered with us you’ll then also need to sign in to Zwift and set-up your account, if you’re not already a member.

The event will be clearly visible in the Zwift Events calendar as the date approaches. Registering your participation in the event is then just a mouse click away.
