Clothing brand will remain in Scotland but now owned by Pentland Brands

Scottish cycling clothing brand Endura has been bought by Pentland Brands, the company behind such sports brands as Speedo, Mitre and Canterbury. The acquisition sees Endura joing the Pentland Brands portfolio although directors Jim McFarlane and Pamela Barclay will continue to head the buisness.

Endura will be the first venture into the cycling market for Pentland Brands, a company that has hugh ambitions of acquiring more brands that show a potential for huge growth within the future, Endura being chief among that list.

While Pentland will assume Endura, the small operation that supplies kit for WorldTour team Movistar will continue to operate from its Scottish base in Livingstone.

It was this willingness from Pentalnd Brands to continue work within Scotland that saw McFarlane listen to offers.

'Endura has been my life for 25 years, so I’m understandably protective of it and dismissed numerous other approaches in the past,' said McFarlane.

'Pentland stands out as an exceptional home for Endura, placing it within a family of world class brands under the umbrella of a family owned company that is long-term in its outlook and aligned with our culture and values.

'The innovation opportunities and the shared vision of manufacturing in Scotland that could extend to other Pentland brands in future, are both hugely exciting prospects to me,' he added.

Chief operating officer of Pentland Brands Chirag Patel echoed the thoughts of McFarlane commenting on the importance of working with a brand that has the right culture.

'We’ll be supporting Jim, Pam and their team by giving them access to our extensive resources and network that, as a global brand management company, we can offer,' said Patel.

'There are so many opportunities in bringing Endura into Pentland Brands. We’re both family owned, so we understand the importance of people and culture, and our brands focus on innovation and bringing disruptive ideas to market,' Patel added.

Endura has been widely regarded as one of leading manufacturers of techincal cycling clothing for quite some time.

Recently, Endura teamed up with aerodynamicist Simon Smart and Drag2Zero in developing a new skinsuit and helmet that it claims to be the fastest outfit in the world.
