Slovenian hoping to secure fourth one-week stage race of the season at Tour of Britain next month

Primoz Roglic will lead LottoNL-Jumbo at the Tour of Britain this September looking to build upon his fourth-place finish at the Tour de France last month. Roglic will lead the Dutch squad, who claimed overall victory at last year's British race with Lars Boom.

Roglic will enter the upcoming Tour of Britain as one of the outright favourites considering his breakout Tour de France performance and clinical strike rate in one-week stage races this season.

The Slovenian exceeded expectations at the Tour, finishing fourth overall just 3 minutes 22 seconds adrift of eventual winner Geraint Thomas (Team Sky), while also winning Stage 19 from Lourdes to Laruns

This was after a prolific streak of three consecutive overall victories in one-week stage races in the lead up to the Tour. Starting with a dominant victory at the Tour of the Basque Country, Roglic went on to win the Tour de Romandie and Tour of Slovenia.

Roglic will also be given a helping hand by the strong team built around him. Experienced time trial specialist Jos van Emden and domestique Maarten Wynants have been picked alongside Criterium du Dauphine stage winner Koen Bouwman.

Finishing off the team will be recent Colorado Classic stage winner Pascal Eenkhoorn and Gijs van Hoecke.

The announcement of Roglic at Britain's premier race has seen race director Mick Bennett sing the Slovenian's praises while also discussing the team's previous success at the race.

'Primoz is one of the most exciting riders in the world right now – and probably the fastest descender in the peloton,' Bennett said. 'He’s an aggressive, attacking rider; he doesn’t respect status and hierarchy, and he’s always fascinating to watch.

'We saw in last year’s race that Team LottoNL-Jumbo had the strength-in-depth to deliver Lars Boom to a deserved overall victory, and a repeat performance – albeit with a different leader – could be on the cards once again.'

Roglic joins an evergrowing list of world-class riders that will ride the Tour of Britain next month. Already confirmed are Giro d'Italia and Tour de France champions Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas as well as Katusha-Alpecin duo Marcel Kittell and Alex Dowsett.

Stage 1 of the Tour of Britain kicks off on Sunday 2nd September with a 175km stage from Pembrey Country Park to Newport.
