Ben Swift will return to Team Sky for the 2019 season after two years with UAE-Team Emirates. Swift was part of the original crop of riders when the team launched in 2010 and remained with the team for seven seasons until the end of 2016.

Riding to two podium finishes at Milan-San Remo were the highlights of Swift's previous stint at Team Sky, results he should be given the chance to better next March.

'Swift is back in Team Sky colours with a key role to play in 2019,' the team's announcement states.

The rider was enthusiastic about the move, as you'd hope.

'It’s a great feeling to be re-joining Team Sky. Obviously I know the ins and outs of the team. I feel really comfortable here and it’s a place I’ve grown as a rider,' Swift said.

'There will be no teething troubles and I’ll be straight back in. I’m hoping that it will feel like I’ve never been away.'

The team is looking to the 30-year-old's experience as well as his riding ability, as Performance Manager Rod Ellingworth expanded on.

'Ben has got a crucial role to play next season,' Ellingworth said. 'He’s not only a fine rider in his own right, but he’s also a superb role model for the younger riders on the team to learn from, as we look to bring through the next generation at Team Sky.'

One of those young riders is Egan Bernal who the team gave a lengthy five year contract to earlier this month.

Bernal shows signs of being the team's big hope for Grand Tours in the future as older riders such as Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas look towards the end of their careers.
