Watch: Omloop Het Nieuwsblad women’s race to be streamed live

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad women’s race, which takes place this Saturday 2nd March can be viewed live on Proximus Sports's Facebook

The full Omloop Het Nieuwsblad women's race will be streamed live for the first time this Saturday, along with the team presentations for both the men's and women's races. Race organiser Flanders Classics and broadcaster Proximus Sports have teamed up so fans can watch a live stream of the riders signing on followed by a broadcast of the women’s race.

This means that fans can watch all the action from the opening Classic, starting with the Proximus live stream then switching to Eurosport to watch the men's Omloop later in the day.

Streaming the event over the web may not carry as much prestige and recognition as Eurosport's coverage, especially given the latter's self-proclaimed billing as 'the home of cycling'. Yet ironically it has the potential to reach a far wider audience since it doesn't require a subscription to watch.

The stream will be live here on Saturday:

Last year's race was won by Christina Siggaard of Team Virtu Cycling Women in a bunch sprint ahead of Canyon-Sram's Alexis Ryan.

The American is returning to the race with the aim of going one better this year and she'll be backed by a strong team to help her towards that goal.

Canyon-Sram are bringing firepower in the shape of Alice Barnes, Hannah Barnes, Elena Cecchini, Tiffany Cromwell – who won this race in 2013, and Kasia Niewiadoma.

Thanks to the live stream you don't need to miss a single pedal stroke of what should be an action-packed 123km of women's racing.
