Specialized Roubaix becomes official bike of Paris-Roubaix

The Specialized Roubaix bike has seen six victories at the Queen of the Classics in its history

More successful than any individual rider, the Specialized Roubaix has crossed the finish line first at the Queen of the Classics no fewer than six times. So its announcement as the official bike of Paris-Roubaix comes as no surprise.

It falls in line with the American bike manufacturer becoming official sponsor of Paris-Roubaix in a deal that will extend through to 2021.

'Paris-Roubaix is an icon in the world of cycling,' said Specialized's Mark Cote. 'It’s the ultimate testing ground for the world’s best cyclists and we’ve been dedicated as technical partners to develop the smoothest and fastest equipment for the race.

'We’re excited to partner with ASO to celebrate this Monument with athletes all around the world.'

Race director of Paris-Roubaix Thierry Gouvenou echoed the same sentiment as Cote connecting the long-standing history between the bike and the race.

'We are delighted to welcome aboard to Paris-Roubaix a brand that has such a great history with the race,' said Gouvenou.

'Specialized is one of the leading cycling brands in the world and we are proud to present them as one of the partners for Paris-Roubaix for the next three years.'

Last year's Paris-Roubaix won by Peter Sagan saw the Slovakian pilot his own limited edition Specialized's S-Works Roubaix bike complete with the futureshock suspension system that gives a smoother ride - if that's really possible - over the Napoleonic cobblestones.

It's also been a while since Specialized has updated its Roubaix with overhauls of the S-Works Venge and Tarmac within the last year instead. Chances are we could see a new Roubaix next so watch this space.
