Colnago's first e-bike is based upon its C64 road model

Colnago has become the latest of the major road cycling brands to enter the e-bike market with its latest bike, the Colnago E64. Following competitors such as Bianchi and Wilier, who have released lightweight e-bikes within the past 12 months, the E64 is Colnago's first attempted at an e-bike.

The brand is hoping to enter the 'market with the style and quality that have distinguished it for 65 years.'

Based upon the Colnago C64 road bike launched last year, the heritage Italian brand has managed to get the weight of the bike, fully built, down to 12kg thanks to its monocoque carbon fibre frame and forks.

At 12kg, that makes the Colnago E64 only 1kg heavier than the Ribble Endurance SLE, the claimed lightest e-bike on the market currently.

The Ebikemotion system Colnago claims to be the lightest on the market consists of a 3.7kg battery. offering an extra 250w in assisted power, which is integrated into the bike's downtube while the motor will be situated in the rear hub.

The motor assistance will be controlled by a button placed on the frame's top tube which will display the charge status of the battery. Colnago will also soon offer an additional power pack which can add an extra 250w from a battery placed in the second bottle cage.

Colnago has designed an app that can be linked to the E64. This will allow you to set a threshold frequency beyond 'which the intervention of the servo assistance system can begin' when paired to a heart rate monitor.

Colnago will sell the new E64 built with Shimano Ultegra di2 disc, a set Mavic Aksium carbon wheels fitted with Continental Ultra Sport 28mm tyres and Deda finishing kit.

Prices are yet to be confirmed for the bike but should be on sale in the UK soon.
