‘Kristoff will win Roubaix’ – Johan Museeuw

Three-time winner of cycling's best race picks his winner for the 2019 Paris-Roubaix

Johan Museeuw has picked his winner for this weekend’s Paris-Roubaix. The three-time winner of a commemorative cobblestone has looked outside of his own nation of Belgium to the north and Norway, and has singled out Gent-Wevelgem winner Alexander Kristoff.

‘Kristoff will win Roubaix, yes,’ Museeuw said, speaking after a short ride starting and finishing at the Tour of Flanders Museum, finding time between selfies and autographs to give his prediction.

Museeuw expanded on his prediction, explaining why he expects Kristoff to be atop the podium in the centre of the Roubaix Velodrome as the dust settles this Sunday evening.

‘He did a great Gent-Wevelgem [which Kristoff won], he did a great Tour of Flanders. He is ready, he is strong, he’s a Viking. He’s especially strong in the sprint.’

Despite not backing a compatriot to win the race, Museeuw did have an opinion on which Belgian pro will be the nearest to glory.

‘The best Belgian will be Sep Vanmarcke,’ the Lion of Flanders confidently predicted. ‘I saw him do a good race [at the Tour of Flanders].

'I was surprised that he’s already as good as this. He worked very hard for the winner, but before he was in the breakaway, so I say Vanmarcke.’
