Chris Lawless and Owain Doull confirmed for UK’s official Tour de France sportive

Team Ineos duo Chris Lawless and Owain Doull will join the thousands of amateur riders set to tackle the L’Etape UK sportive later this month.

The talented British duo will be on the start line of the official Tour de France sportive on 14th July in the Chiltern Hills before chipping in at the day’s feed zones and then congratulating finishers at the finish in the grounds of Penn House.

Lawless and Doull reflect the present and future of cycling in Great Britain. Lawless took the biggest victory of his career so far in May, winning the Tour de Yorkshire overall, while Doull is already an Olympic champion after taking gold in the team pursuit at Rio 2016.

Lawless said of his involvement, 'I’m really excited to be taking part in this year’s L’Etape UK. It’s going to be a fun day out with some challenging climbs and a great atmosphere.

'It’s the official Tour de France sportive and I’m sure it will help bring the race to life for people on British roads. See you out there on the route.’

CEO of Human Race, Nick Rusling, expressed his delight at the Team Ineos pair joining for the ride stating, 'We always strive to offer the best experience for our cyclists and bringing the tour to the Chilterns with superstar cyclists like Chris and Owain really is great.'

This will be the first time the official sportive of cycling’s biggest race will visit the Chilterns with it previously being based in East London and Essex.

Three routes will be on offer, ranging from 51km to 181km, with all routes starting and finishing at Penn House just outside of Amersham.

Each will present unique challenges including demanding climbs, winding roads, and potentially changeable weather across the Chiltern Hills of Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

Beyond the rides, the start village will also have plenty of activities hosted in its Tour de France fan park including a themed food market and live coverage of Stage 9 of the Tour on a big screen.
