2014 runner-up to finally don national colours during upcoming season

Team Ineos took to Twitter yesterday to reveal the British national championship jersey that will be worn by Ben Swift this season.

Swift, 31, claimed his maiden victory in the British National Road Championships earlier this month following a well-timed counter attack that saw the Team Ineos rider sail past his teammate Ian Stannard in the final kilometer of the race.

Besides coming second in this race five years ago, Swift has come agonisingly close many times before in his long career.

The Rotherham man has finished in the top 10 six times, putting him in very select company alongside five-time champion Scott Thwaites, and Ian Stannard and Peter Kennaugh, who have both also only won the race once so far.

The jersey comes as a welcome reward for the Yorkshireman who was sent to intensive care in February after a bad crash with Tour de France hopeful Geraint Thomas.

Many in the Swift family will already be familiar with the British stripes as Ben succeeds his cousin Connor Swift, last year’s national champion.

This title marks yet another victory for Team Ineos, formerly Team Sky, who have seen their riders win the race six times since their inception in 2009.

It remains to be seen when we will get a first look of Swift in his national champion’s jersey as the rider currently has no upcoming races on his program.
