Isle of Wight Bike Day to celebrate fantastic cycling destination

Inaugural event to take place on Saturday 31st August to celebrate cycling on the glorious Isle of Wight

Rightly named the best cycling destination in the world by travel guide Lonely Planet, the Isle of Wight is known to many cyclists around the UK and the world as a fantastic place to turn the pedals. To celebrate all things cycling on the Island, this Saturday will see the inaugural Isle of Wight Bike Day held at Chessell Pottery, a popular tourist stop and cycling cafe.

What started out as a request to host an evening time-trial has spiralled into something much bigger and more inclusive. The event's organiser, Mark Giddens, was approached by the Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Team to host the final event in their TT series, along with the post-event prize presentations.

The Isle of Wight has so much to offer all kinds of cyclists - road, gravel, trails, families and more - which means that a TT event might not appeal to a full range of riders. With that in mind, Giddens grew the idea into a full day to include any interested riders and other cycling clubs.
