Olympic gold medallists and world record holders join strong field

Two of the biggest names in British women’s cycling, Katie Archibald and Elinor Barker, have been announced for the upcoming London Six Day event at the Lee Valley VeloPark.

The pair shot to fame with their dominant display at the 2016 Rio Olympics, forming half the team that won Team Pursuit gold, setting the fastest time in every round on the way.

No strangers to Six Day events though, Archibald returns this October as reigning champion, having won the Six Day Final in Brisbane this April to complement her long list of previous victories.

‘Six Day events are like nothing else on the calendar and I can’t wait to get back to London’s iconic Lee Valley VeloPark,’ said Archibald, MBE. ‘I’ve got some amazing memories of winning at Six Day London from 2016 and 2017.’

For her part, Barker is no stranger to the event. The four-time World and five-time European gold medallist, also MBE, previously won at the Amsterdam and Mallorca Six Day events in 2017.

‘I’m very excited to be returning for Six Day this October, and really looking forward to racing with Katie,’ she said.

‘We’ve obviously shared the highest moment of our careers to date when we won together in Rio 2016, so it will be nicely competitive between us when we meet in London.’

The Six Day Series returns to the British capital for a fifth year in a row, with Archibald and Barker bolstering an impressive line-up that also includes Elena Cecchini, former Italian National Road Race and Time Trial National Champion.

Elia Viviani is another of the big stars set to take the stage in London where he will reignite his long standing but good natured rivalry with Mark Cavendish in the men’s race.
