Yorkshireman will race for Trinity Sport as it debuts under-23 road team

Tom Pidcock will headline the new Trinity Racing road cycling team, resisting the temptation to jump into the WorldTour. Multiple World Champion across several disciplines, Pidcock is very much the rising star of British cycling and will race under the colours of Trinity Management, the same team he raced for during the cyclocross season.

The 20-year-old Yorkshireman will be joined by a further 10 riders from Great Britain and Ireland as well as Australian youngster Zach Johnson.

The race programme will be geared towards under-23 events such as the Baby Giro d'Italia while also allowing its riders to represent national teams at the likes of the Tour de l'Avenir or even bigger races such as the Tour de Yorkshire.

Jamie Barlow of Trinity Sport Management commented on the team stating it has some of the best young riders in the world.

'We have built a hugely talented young team which includes some of the best under-23 riders in the world,' said Barlow. 'Our race programme will give the lads a solid mixture of some of the top one-day and stages races in Europe, such as the Baby Giro, which is a big target for our debut season.'

Pidcock raced for Wiggins-Le Col last season but the team folded at the back end of 2019, forcing Pidcock to search for a new team.

Trinity Management initially stepped in to house Pidcock throughout the rest of the cyclocross season alongside fellow riders Cameron Mason and Abby-Mae Parkinson.

This still left Pidcock without a road team, and considering his impressive second at the elite cyclocross World Championships, plenty of WorldTour road teams begun to sniff around.

However, Pidcock told Cyclist recently that he is no rush to jump to road cycling's highest level as he wants to continue his concentration on the racing cyclocross throughout the winter.

Ultimately, it is this which has most likely prompted Trinity Sport into developing this new under-23 road team.
