NTT Pro Cycling rider swaps warmth for watt-savings in hunt for stage victory

For a man obsessed with aerodynamic gains, Hour Record holder Victor Campenaerts has previously sported a rather fulsome looking beard. Making him easy to spot in the peloton, and likely having kept him insulated during Paris-Nice’s first few rainy stages, it’s now got the chop.

In a move designed to unsettle his rivals, pictures of a clean cheeked Campenaerts emerged this morning ahead of Stage 4's individual time-trial.

The Team NTT rider explained that for the time-trial, 'preparation is everything…'. The now moustachioed rider is a likely favourite for today’s 15.1km race around Saint-Amand-Montrond.

With the owner of the race’s most threatening combination of facial hair and time-trial ability, Julian Alaphilippe, having recently fallen off the pace - Campenaerts’s chances have received a further boost

Now heading into the foruth stage of eight, Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) leads Paris-Nice by 13 seconds ahead of Campenaerts’s NTT teammate Giacomo Nizzolo.
