Rob Hatch and Matt Stephens to present imagined Tour of Flanders starring a mixed field of modern and classic riders

With Sunday’s Tour of Flanders cancelled, several pros have signed up to race online instead. Amateurs have also been given the opportunity to ride online. However, for those that don’t fancy competing or watching, commentary duo Rob Hatch and Matt Stephens have another option.

Cycling in Flanders, Flanders Classics and Belgian radio and television network Sporza are joining up to present ‘The Officially Unbelievable Ronde van Vlaanderen’. A fantasy version of the event unfolding in real-time, its commentary will see famous male and female riders thrown together for an intergenerational battle over the cobbles.

What would happen if Johan Museeuw were to line up against Fabian Cancellara? Might Bradley Wiggins finally get his win? Could Marianne Vos or Annemiek van Vleuten ride themselves into contention? Or will the cannibal Eddy Merckx devour all his competitors?

With a good dose of cycling history and anecdotes thrown in, expect cameos from various pros along with Matt and Rob’s distinctive commentary. The story can be found on cycling-in-flanders.cc.

For those still desperate for an RVV fix, the bods at Flanders Classics are also busy bashing out some English subtitles for their film about last year’s race. Covering both the men’s and women’s races, it should be up on their YouTube channel next week.

With quite a lot of English commentary, the original version is worth a watch anyway - especially if you’re keen to brush up on your Dutch.
