The Spring Classics edition of the popular board game will reach customers just in time for Christmas

Christmas 2020 is sorted for us cycling fans as iconic board game Monopoly has announced its first cycling edition. That’s right, replacing the likes of Park Lane and the Old Kent Road will be the iconic streets of cycling Classics such as the Muur van Geraardsbergen and Carrefour de l’Arbre in this brand-new board game homage to the Spring Classics.

Being produced by Monopoly Belgium, the board game will come in both Dutch and French, although that should not be too big a problem for us English-speakers as the language of Monopoly is universal.

‘The ideal way to relive the most famous passages from your favourite Spring Classics,' the product’s website explains.

‘Just think of legendary duels at La Redoute, the marches on the Muur or that one flat tyre at Carrefour de l'Arbre. Visit the Kwaremont, go for a spin on the Vélodrome of Roubaix, climb the Poggio and get a profit bonus! This Monopoly edition takes you to all the beauty that the spring races have to offer.’

Imagine that, settling down after a big Christmas lunch and a sherry or two, you find yourself landing on the Kemmelberg which your Nan owns and has two hotels on, so now you’re bankrupt and angry because you cannot play anymore despite it being your game in the first place so you flip the board so nobody can play. Bliss!

The box will feature two of Belgium’s biggest riders on its covers in the shape Philippe Gilbert of Lotto-Soudal and Remco Evenepoel of Deceuninck-QuickStep. Additionally, there is even a current ‘Father’s Day offer’ for a bundle of the game alongside a Gilbert cycling cap.

The board game will be officially released in November, just in time for Christmas, however, you can already pre-order, costing €50 excluding postage and packaging. We’ll take two, thanks.
