Mavic releases stunning new classic shoes

New Classic Leather shoes mix modern with vintage in all the right ways

Mavic has quietly released a new set of vintage leather cycling shoes that are absolutely stunning.

While the iconic French brand has been in the headlines recently for almost disappearing into obscurity, its product team have been working hard to produce the Mavic Classic leather cycling shoes.

The lace-up road shoes mix old with new, combining a classic brown leather upper and laves with Mavic's Full carbon energy sole.

The shoe's upper uses a 'luxury' leather in a classic brown colourway which Mavic promises gives 'comfort and stability' thanks to its soft-touch finish. The leather has also been perforated for better breathability.

Forgoing modern closure systems such as Velcro or BOA dials, Mavic has opted for a set of thin laces which tuck neatly under an elastic band when tied. Furthermore, Mavic has used something called an 'autolocker for dual adjustability' on the laces, too.

Inside the shoe, Mavic has utilised an Ortholite inner sole that is slightly padded for comfort and shaped to provide a perfect fit for the foot.

As for the outer sole, this relies on Mavic's Full carbon energy carbon plate, used across Mavic's shoe range. Light and stiff, it helps keep a set of these shoes down to 250g in weight and reduces stack height to ann impressive 6.5mm.

The bottom sole has also been designed with large vents for better airflow in hot conditions, too.

The shoes, which are already available to buy now, will retail for £270 and come in nine sizes from UK 7 to UK 11.

The jury may be out regarding lace-up cycling shoes with Deceuninck-Quickstep director sportif and fashion icon Brian Holm stating they are for 'hipster and fat tourists'. But here at Cyclist we beg to differ, and will be looking forward to reviewing a set in the coming months.
