A guide on how to catch the Criterium du Dauphine, the Tour de France preview race

The 2020 Criterium du Dauphine will take place from Wednesday 12th to Sunday 16th August and give us one of our final glimpses of the top Tour de France contenders before the Grand Depart later this month.

The traditional opening act for the Tour, this year's Dauphine hung in the balance due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic but thankfully will go ahead.

It has been pushed back from its usual June dates to August and has also been trimmed to just five stages from its usual eight, but should still act as the perfect Tour teaser thanks to a mountain-packed parcours and start list of superstars.

The Dauphine has often been the perfect Tour warm-up race with many eventual yellow jersey winners honing their form at the Dauphine beforehand.

This year's Dauphine will give us an opportunity to witness the triple attack of Geraint Thomas, Chris Froome and Egan Bernal of Team Ineos battle the three-pronged Jumbo-Visma team of Primoz Roglic, Tom Dumoulin and Steven Kruijswijk before the main event later this month.

The race will also see Deceuninck-QuickStep's Julian Alaphilippe, Arkea-Samsic's Nairo Quintana, Education-First's Rigoberto Uran, Mitchelton-Scott's Adam Yates and Groupama-FDJ's Thibaut Pinot will also be present in what is a truly palpitating rollcall of riders.

Defending Dauphine champion Jakob Fuglsang, however, will not be present as the Astana man is heading to Il Lombardia this weekend instead.

How to watch and live stream the Criterium du Dauphine 2020

This year's Criterium du Dauphine will be broadcast in the UK on both Eurosport and ITV4. Live coverage will be shown by Eurosport while ITV4 will be broadcasting hour-long highlights each evening.

Eurosport will be showing each stage on Eurosport 2 between 13:45 and 15:30 each day while ITV4's highlights package will air from 19:00 to 20:00.

Access to Eurosport is usually available as part of most Sky or Virgin Media packages while ITV4 should be standard for all in the UK.

Additionally, if you are looking to watch online, you will be able to catch live coverage on Eurosport's Player app which costs £39.99 per year or £6.99 per month.

The racing will also be shown on the new GCN Race Pass app, which is basically the same as the Eurosport Player as both Eurosport and GCN are owned by the same parent company. That also costs £39.99 but is currently on early bird offer at £19.99.
