After taking measures to reschedule the April event to October, an increasing infection rate has forced Mallorca 312 to be cancelled

The 2020 Mallorca 312, Mallorca's largest sportive, has been cancelled on account of the escalation of the internal Covid-19 pandemic and increased infections on a local level.

The Mallorca 312 is one of Europe's most popular sportives, usually selling out within days and attracting thousands of Brits each year.

The event, originally scheduled for 26th April, was postponed until 10th October in the hope that it would have been able to safely proceed with extra health protocols in place and testing for competitors.

In a press release sent today, the organiser described the influencing factors as a 'Force majure'.

The statement claimed that, 'the evolution of the international pandemic, has forced many foreign participants to cancel their flights, the closure of the hotels and travel restrictions from their governments; as well as at a local level, where infections have multiplied, have made it impossible to carry out the event.'

Xisco Literas, CEO of the Mallorca 312, explained, 'The growth in the number of cases and the new restrictions make it impossible to guarantee the safety of the participants and the citizens of Mallorca, and that is our number one priority.'

The event organiser is preparing a digital platform to assist entrants in attaining refunds. 'The organisation is preparing the digital platform where participants can access and request a refund or have the option to transfer their registration to the 2021 edition,' the statement concluded.
