Tom Pidcock gets call-up to race in Imola this September

British Cycling has announced the riders selected to race at the World Championships in Imola, Italy. The Worlds are due to take place from the 24th to 27th September, and 21-year-old Tom Pidcock announced that he’s been selected for the road race alongside James Knox, James Shaw, Hugh Carthy, Luke Rowe and Matt Holmes.

In the time-trial, Great Britain will be represented by Geraint Thomas and Alex Dowsett.

Originally scheduled to take place in Switzerland, changes in the rules relating to mass gatherings there forced the relocation of the races at short notice. They’re now scheduled to take place on the same dates but in and around the Imola car racing circuit in Italy.

Along with moving the World Championships, the UCI decided to cut all junior and under-23 events from the schedule, instead leaving them to be contested next year.

Last year Pidcock finished a strong third in the men’s under-23 race in Yorkshire. However this year he’s moved up to race in the Elite category.

The hilly Imola course should be suited to the young cyclocross champion – you can check out the revised World Championship race routes here.

The women’s road team comprising Lizzy Banks, Alice Barnes, Hannah Barnes, Lizzie Deignan, Anna Henderson, Anna Shackley, along with the two time-trial entries of Lizzy Banks and Alice Barnes was announced earlier this month.
