Great news for cycling fans as Eurosport and GCN have changed tack and will now show the 2021 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

Following the news last week that UK viewers would be denied live coverage of the proper start of the professional cycling season, it has now been confirmed that Omloop Het Nieuwsblad will be shown on Eurosport and GCN after all.

A situation made worse by Eurosport's customer service Twitter account suggesting that coverage of the UAE Tour would somehow make up for Omloop dropping off the schedules, cycling fans can now watch some proper cycling over the cobbles of Belgium this Saturday.

The news came to Cyclist's attention thanks a tweet from GCN stalwart Dan Lloyd, a man who must be relieved about the correction of this situation as his own Twitter account had partially morphed into a customer service portal for paying customers venting their annoyance at Omloop's lack of coverage.

Seen by some as a Tour of Flanders-lite, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad never fails to entertain those watching while it can also be a good indicator of who might win the bigger races as the Spring Classics season goes on.

Both women's and men's races are set to be shown live.

The men's race is followed the next day by Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, another Classics race but one that is better suited to the sprinters. This race was always present on Eurosport and GCN's schedules and still is at the time of writing, so prepare for a weekend in front of the television.

In a statement on the reintroduction of Omloop Het Nieuwblad to its schedules, Eurosport said: 'Eurosport-GCN can announce it has reached agreement with Infront and Flanders Classics to broadcast Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on its platforms across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region (excluding China, New Zealand and Australia).

'Eurosport and GCN will screen the men’s and women’s races from the first Cobbled Classic of the year on Saturday 27th February exclusively in Europe, except Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, where the race will be aired on a non-exclusive basis.

Coverage of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad is scheduled to begin at 13:00GMT on Saturday 27th February across Eurosport and GCN.
