Le Col releases Project Aero Collection with McLaren

British brands collaborate on a minimalist kit that goes all out for aerodynamics and speed

Last year Le Col and McLaren were sponsors of a WorldTour team, with two riders sporting their top tier red, yellow, black and blue kit to Grand Tour top fives.

That team is now called Bahrain Victorious, at times ironically, while Le Col and McLaren, no longer associated with the squad, have collaborated on a new range of super aerodynamic clothing that would, undoubtedly, have helped secure a victory or two.

A slick black kit with orange detailing, the Le Col x McLaren Project Aero Collection has been developed by both cycling experts and world-leading aerodynamicists – so you know all stones have been well and truly turned.

The new range consists of short and long sleeve jerseys, a skinsuit, a speedsuit – a short-sleeved skinsuit – and, of course, socks.

As you'd expect, the skinsuit and speedsuit are the pièces de résistance. Le Col claims they came out faster than lots of WorldTour skinsuits in wind-tunnel and track testing. Crafted with ultra-lightweight Italian fabric and textured to optimise air flow with strategically placed dimples and layers.

Though not as aero as the above, the jerseys have also been tested and refined for maximum speed and have been made with 'High Speed Lycra' on the front and sleeves. All marginal gains have been implimented, with debossed logos, low profile pockets and a tight fit.

If you're being really picky, Le Col says at 40kmh the long sleeve jersey will save six watts over the short sleeve.

Finally, the socks also have aero-refined fabrics alongside a breathable hex construction, a grippy internal cuff and padding around the toes and on the base.
