First look: Etxeondo winter kit

12 Jan 2017

Stylish, but with plenty of innovation behind the good looks

Etxeondo (pronounced et-chee-on-doe) is a clothing brand from the Basque region of northern Spain whose presence in the UK is surprisingly low-key considering its 40-year history outfitting teams at the top of the sport.

Founder Francisco Rodrigo had a background in haute couture so it’s little wonder Etxeondo focuses on stylish looks and innovative use of fabrics.

The Sekur jacket and Attaque bibtights are cases in point – the jacket makes use of Gore’s Windstopper fabric, combining weather-resistant versatility with anti-abrasion fabric over the elbows.

‘We worked with fabric company DSM to adapt and improve its Dyneema fabric for use in cycling apparel,’ says Nestor Arana, Etxeondo’s marketing manager.

‘By weight, it is 15 times stronger than steel so effectively guards against road rash.’

The Attaque bibtights are made from Etxeondo’s Carbon fabric, which the company claims is antibacterial as well as highly compressive.

Verdict: Stylish, but with plenty of innovation behind the good looks
